So, WordPress 2.3? Hmm, where do I begin? I think I would advise you if possible to wait for the version 2.3.x, which is probably around the corner.
I think taking the regular precautions an backing up your data is always a good idea no matter to what version you are updating.

    There is allready a wave to change a couple of line in a certain page on wp core to keep technorati on dashboard. There is also a plugin for that for those not quite familiar with scripts changings ...

    Despite maybe technorati is not allways best choice, use of google-serch instead of technorati proved to be not a good choice at all, for some people now ..

    I too am waiting out the next rev of wordpress 2.3. I have a bunch of plugins that are not compatible and the tagging system has changed quite a bit from what I hear
