I am no longer worried about this. "Vlad" is not a profitable keyword as far as I am concerned.

I use to have #1 for "vlad the affiliate" for quiet some time even before the experiment.

So when I let the googlebot back I am not that surprised to regain that place.

I am am surprised that I rank for some other more competitive results better.

Since you have the most confusing domain name I have ever seen, I googled for vlad the affiliate. And it was only after hitting the search button I remembered about your experiment and I too was surprised to see that you are still #1 for that keyword.

They serve different SERPs all the time from different datacentres, thus what you are seeing might be what is going to happen, or what may happen in the future, or due to local or personalized results.

You received some useful anchor text links from my list of sites hit with a penalty, and that page itself is quite strong now.
It isn't such a competitive term that a few strong links can't have a dramatic effect.
