I took the plunge a few weeks ago and purchased a digital video camera
panasonic SDR-H18
it isn't perfect (it takes a second or two to turn on and the color has trouble adjusting a few times) but has been working fine for me and the quality is the same as my digital camera (except now I can record longer than 7 minutes, lol).
remember for 4-500 dollars you are just getting an entry level hard drive camera so don't expect hollywood quality

On one hand I really do not need that much- after all there is limit with what we can do with web videos.
But I believe we will see great improvement over the period of next few months and if you look at most of the higher end camcorders they all are MiniDV type.
The down side with MiniDV is the capture process, but I think I can deal with it.

I think I will be getting two cameras at this point one might just be Flip for quick vlogging, I am however in the middle of a project that would rather have some what better quality of the footage.
Hard disk camcorders come short of what I need. I am sure that the future of the digital video is not MiniDV but so far these camcorders are capable to produce the best quality.
