Sage Blogger: New Comments System: Disqus

  • Sam Harrelson · 1 year ago
    Hey Vlad-

Again, Iove Disqus b/c it solves two big problems I had as a blogger:

    1) Spam and authenticity
    2) Sustaining conversations that were happening in the comments and letting people know about those conversations. I'm a big user and advocate of RSS, so the RSS integration is great as well.

Enjoy and let us know how the experiment goes!

    Sam,

The fact that you can answer to the comments straight from your e-mail is
great. I am writing this response in my Gmail.... That is so sweet!
  • Sam Harrelson · 1 year ago
Yep, no doubt! I'm using Mail.app on the Mac and it works great!
    Definitely a time saver.

Hmmm. yours looks quite different than mine, Vlad. Wondering if you'ere using the "stable" version of the plugin vs. the "beta".
  • Vlad Zablotskyy · 1 year ago
    Scott,

I have the stable version. There are few setting as it comes to how the
comments are viewed. But this e-mail thing is driving me nuts lol.... in a
good sense. That is so sweet.
  • jangro · 1 year ago
Also, Vlad, be sure to add your Disqus account to your FriendFeed.
  • Vlad Zablotskyy · 1 year ago
Thanks.... It look though that switching to a bate plugin will not be a problem.... But it has to wait. My wife is getting a little upset with me. Going out shopping.
  • Vlad Zablotskyy · 1 year ago
Crap.... don't mind my misspellings lol
  • jangro · 1 year ago
Yeah, look like you're using the "stable" plugin Vlad as your comments are being served up in Javascript. They won't be visible to Search Engines.

The Beta uses Disqus' API and loads the comments on the server-side and includes them in the post. You might want to switch over to that if you care about these comments being in your post's HTML available to search engines.

Is the beta plugin serving comments in php?
  • jangro · 1 year ago
Yes. Do a view source on my disqus blog post. I'm using the beta.

Btw, I did get the trackback in wp for this post, but it won't show
because it didn't go to disqus.

From what I see I need to "redo the integration" for the beta plugin to
install. I wonder if I am going to loose all these comments. I guess there
is one way to find out.
  • Vlad Zablotskyy · 1 year ago
    Scott,

Is thee a way to serve trackbacks in WordPress outside the comments.php???
  • jangro · 1 year ago
Good question. yes, I do believe so. Would take some template
modifications, but that's a good call. I'll look into that.
  • Vlad Zablotskyy · 1 year ago
This comment came in e-mail only with the first paragraph. That's why I asked that question.
  • Vlad Zablotskyy · 1 year ago
Ok, the API verstion looks weird with my theme
  • Vlad Zablotskyy · 1 year ago
Finally found a theme that works well with Disqus..... Scott, if I am not mistake our theme are designed by the same guy.

Just noticed that if you are using FeedBurner feed-flares, the comment count feed flare is not compatible with Disqus... I if you are aware of a "Disqus Comment Count" feed flare, please let me know.

I can't get enough of Disqus though. What a great solution!
