Do You Have Time For Paid Comments?

Started by Vlad Zablotskyy · 10 months ago

While there are certainly cases when paid comments can be 100% legitimate, I still stand by my somewhat harsh criticism of the website than brought the issue into the spotlights in recent weeks.
Today I was faced with a little bit of a dilemma. Seemingly innocent comments with clear attempt to ... Continue reading »

  • Email me the email address he used, he has been leaving a few on my blog as well and we can compare notes

The site he links through to is a webhosting affiliate site, but it does seem at least a fair attempt, though not as good as yours.
  • Andy,

I really felt bad because I do have a few web hosting affiliate websites, and I know how difficult to get lings in that niche....
  • I was worried about this when I installed do follow, but I don't' get much traffic so for right now it's not an issue, I know I have seen alot of people who are jumping off the do follow bandwagon and go back to do not follow. I may think about it once my blogs get up and really going, but for now I'll leave it.
  • Holly,

I personally will never consider going back to "nofollow", even though it looks like my blog is acting more and more spammers.
  • The only blog I would consider doing this with is a blog that I also have affiliate links on for making money programs that don't have to do with blogging.

I may just end up installing a program that will only follow after a person leaves so many comments. Of course this is all considering I have a spam problem later on.
  • Holly,

I just visited your blog. The links in comments are still "nofollowed". I hope you are still following this post, so you can explain your above comments.
  • Blogger likes to reset things on me, it deletes my google codes, and turns on no follow, I usually check it every friday to see if they changed it, guess they did on me again. I'm hopeing to get my own hosting, but I just got screwed over by my college and I'm not going to have any money for a while.... Thanks for letting me know I'll have to fix it.
  • It would have been a lot better if there was some facility to manually insert nofollow attribute to comments that looks like spam. Hope my site won't get filled with spam comments.
  • Joice,

There are plugins that can help you to moderate the spam. Here and there a spammy message slips through. For me if I feel that I would rather have a "nofollow" link for a particular comment- the comment does not belong on my blog.
