The rel="tag" microformat doesn't require you to link through to Technorati for Technorati to use your tags for categorising your content.

You can link through to any tagspace, including Wikipedia, Bumpzee, Blogcatalog, or with a useful tagging plugin like UTW to your own tag space.

I have written a number of times how wasteful links to Technorati are as far as link juice.

Hi David,

I personally do not use technorati taggin with UTW. I am guessing it would just create out going links to technorati.

Does this mean I should use the Technorati tagging plugin in conjunction? I'm unsure.

I've been worried about spreading the inbound and outbound links from my site, so will give this a try.
